RENE AHOUD - FILM MUSIC COMPOSER

My name is Rene Ahoud. I’m a composer of music for film and media based in Amsterdam currently in Athens for a creative residency from February the 20th through May 1st.

I am looking forward to explore Athens in all its facets, work with local musicians, creatives and production houses in Athens and, as a result,  let these influences resonate through my work.

During this period I’m looking to connect with directors, editors, producers, and fellow creatives who are working on narrative films, documentaries, series, or other story-driven projects — both current and upcoming. I’m particularly interested in collaborations where music is part of the storytelling process early on.

My work focuses on emotional, minimal, and atmospheric scoring — often blending acoustic instruments and orchestral textures with refined electronic elements.

I work with filmmakers across Europe. I’m comfortable collaborating closely with directors and editors, delivering stems and alternates, and working both locally and remotely.

FLOOD - MUSIC FOR AN IMAGINARY DELUGE

FLOOD was originally conceived as the soundtrack for an AV installation.  It consists of 7 tracks that somehow relate to the menacing concept of “land disappearing underwater”.
Each track offers another perspective towards a phenomenon, presenting a variety of interpretations of what could be considered “an imaginary deluge.”

“I placed within the earth, my essence. My life, my volition. I am responsible. I shall reap what I have sown.”
“And in that moment of acceptance and surrender, amidst the turmoil of the storm, I found a sense of peace, a sense of unity with the boundless universe, where man and water merge as one.”

Flood has a dark brooding atmosphere. Going from angelic, orchestral swamp ensembles and a waltzing acoustic cabaret performance to dark ambient, repetitive and soaring guitar patterns and the moody trumpet of Eduardo Blanco. The music is full of different time measures that never break the flow and enhance the smell of wet soil, at least from where I shelter.

“To disappear into deep water or to disappear toward a far horizon, to become part of depth of infinity, such is the destiny of man that finds its image in the destiny of water.” Gaston Bachelard

THE LONE RANGER, HIS WIFE AND. HER DOG

ELECTRIC

CAMPFIRE STORIES

ARCHAIC STRUCTURES

The 3 tracks on Archaic Structures were made as part multimedia shorts and a contribution to an evening of Gothic inspiration in Amsterdam’s FOAM in remembrance of Lord Byron’s ghost story competition.

An atmospheric trilogy that tells the story of a stressed out ranger who is unable to divide his time between horseback riding, his wife and her dog and as a consequence settles for a private nirvana.
The three downtempo cinematic tracks are supported by black&white “1930’s western-style” music video’s.
Being a delicate interplay of guitars, trumpet, drones, eerie synths and electro-acoustical orchestral elements, the music evolves alongside this narrative, adding both layers of suspense and laid-back melodies, ultimately contributing to a near cinematic experience.

THE NINTH CYCLE

The Ninth Cycle.

Excerpt of a series of tracks about Space – Structure – Nature.

While developing, we seek to find the niches that best suit the way we shape life in that period. This process seems to continue indefinitely while ultimately always confronting us with a boundary. It is the trial and error cycle that always accompanies creation. Ideally, we prevent repetition, but in the dynamics of change, repetition serves a steering function.

22OUMUAMUA in search for empty space to give birth to intuitive compositions with an emphasis on atmosphere.
Juggling between jazz, cinematic, electronic & ambient.
Not necessarily knowing where to go but the wish to invoke specific sound images.

  4. THE TITLES 2:06

The film Together we cycle investigates the critical events that led to the revival of the Dutch cycling culture. Many people think that cycling in the Netherlands is a natural phenomenon. However, until the 1970s the development of mobility in the Netherlands followed trends across the globe. The bicycle had had its day, and the future belonged to the car. The only thing that had to be done was to adapt cities to the influx of cars.

In the film When we cycle we will take a look into the great unknown. What are the different developments in society and what might be the role of the bike in these possible futures? Does the fast efficient cyclist get priority or are other scenarios conceivable? And how will that effect the city of the future?

Various experts and everyday cyclists will take you on this journey through different imaginable futures for cycling.

DOCUMENTARY WHY WE CYCLE

  3. EXIT 1:08
  4. EXIT TITLES 1:15

To the Dutch, cycling is as normal as breathing. We don’t think about it, we just do it. Perhaps the fact that we don’t think about it, is the key to the bicycle’s success in this country. But because we do not give cycling a second thought, we don’t really know what the deeper needs of cyclists are. In the documentary ‘Why we cycle’ we take a ride with ordinary cyclists and specialists from a variety of disciplines. These conversations uncover some obvious, but even more hidden effects of cycling on people, on societies, and on the organization of cities.
