De snelheid van het verloop van een gebeurtenis of activiteit, of dit nu objectief of subjectief is, bepaalt in sterke mate waar de focus komt te liggen. Is het verloop trager dan zal de focus meer verschuiven naar het “zich bewust zijn van de gebeurtenis of activiteit”. Een dergelijk fenomeen doet zich voor in de landelijke gebieden aan de stadsgrenzen. Men is zich bewust van het ritme van de stad die weliswaar zichtbaar is maar nauwelijks hoorbaar. In deze veranderde tijdsruimte lijkt de stad tot een andere, meer tijdloze, context te behoren. Hierdoor ontstaat ruimte voor specifieke focus en reflectie waarbij het accent meer komt te liggen op ervaren of mijmeren dan “hard nadenken”. Dit fenomeen staat centraal in de geluidswandeling City Limits.
City Limits is een 3D Geluidswandeling in de Tuinen van West waarin het accent ligt op een “veranderd tijd – ruimte bewustzijn” en “het zich bewustzijn van kleine details” in een landelijk stadsgebied. De geluidswandeling dient beluisterd te worden tijdens het lopen van een route in het landelijke stadsgebied. De geluidswandeling zal circa 1.5 uur in beslag nemen. De geluidswandeling wordt afgespeeld in ECHOES, een GPS gestuurde app die gratis gedownload kan worden. Geïnteresseerden sturen een email naar soundwalk@johnnyraw.com. In reactie daarop wordt een link naar de geluidswandeling verstuurd.
De wandeling bestaat uit een 3D geluidsomgeving waarin opgenomen, een soundscape van bewerkte field-recording, poëzie en historische en culturele storytelling. Alle geluidsopnames zijn met contactmicrofoons, onderwater microfoons en binaural microfoons, in het Tuinen van West gebied gemaakt. Geluiden die in het dagelijks leven niet hoorbaar zijn krijgen in deze nieuwe context een andere lading. Het geluid heeft zodoende een oorspronkelijke relatie met de omgeving waar de luisteraar loopt en gaat tevens een relatie aan met het soms nog hoorbare omgevingsgeluid. Tijdens de wandeling "loop je door verschillende geluidsobjecten".

The faster an event or activity occurs, be it subjective or objective, the more the focus is pulled towards the activity. The slower it occurs, the more the emphasis shifts towards awareness. Awareness that not only concerns (the relation to) the event happening but also awareness related to the self or oneself in time.
A similar thing happens in a larger rural section of an urban area. One is remotely aware of the pace of life in the visible but hardly audible urban area but again, time is moving slower. The city’s sounds seem to be part of some other, more timeless context.The resultsing experience offers more room for a specific focus or reflection. The kind of “day-dreaming” in which the focus shifts towards “experiencing” as opposed to “a heavy-headed kind of thinking”. This phenomenon is the guiding principle of the 3D soundwalk City Limits.
City Limits is a 3D Soundwalk in the Tuinen van West area in which the emphasis shifts towards awareness of oneself in time and space, and focus on small details in a rural urban area. One is listening to City Limits while walking a specific route through the rural urban area “de Tuinen van West” (Amsterdam Nieuw-West). The soundwalk will take some 1.5 hours. The soundwalk is played using ECHOES, a GPS triggered app that can be freely downloaded. The soundwalk consists of a 3D soundspace in which, a soundscape constructed out of processed field recording, poetry and historic and cultural storytelling are presented. All field-recordings, made using contact mic's, hydrophones and binaural mic's, originate from the surrounding area and will merge with the, sometimes audible presence of, ambient noise. Sounds that can not be heard in daily life are shapeshifted in an adventurous soundscape. While walking one will "trigger and walk through different audio objects".
