RENE AHOUD - FILM MUSIC COMPOSER

Film music composer. Storytelling music for films, documentaries, television, commercials, art projects, booktrailers, audiobooks, podcasts, audiotours and AV productions. Custom tracks or scores can be commissioned but you can also browse the recently launched music library: Sound Imagery.

Having a vintage piano around the house and an even more vintage Eko guitar at least  did give me some feel for the mystical qualities of music. Though idealism in my early teens led me to opt for social work, I soon found out “creating” seemed to fit me more.

This opened up the way to buying an electric guitar but, more importantly, my first love for electronic instruments.  I studied Sonology at the conservatory in The Hague and more sound-engineering at the School of Audio Engineering. This led to audio-post production work as well as radio and television engineering, culminating in the birth of the Johnny Raw Studio in 2006.

Since some 25 years I am working as a composer, engineer and producer. Ranging from audio-post production, audio for games to performing live and composing for choreography, artists, radio&television, a Universal music library and films and documentaries.

In recent years I composed music for some shorts, the British/Dutch feature Sunset Contract, some documentaries, various artists and music library Sound Imagery.

GIVING A STORY MORE IMPACT!

RENE AHOUD - FILM SCORE COMPOSER - THE JOHNNY RAW STUDIO

I have always been very much fascinated by the experiment that both music and sound seemed to invite me to.

Gradually I developed a passion for composing music for film and “other storytelling content”. Working and  cooperating on music for picture and stories feels like my natural habitat, always focusing on giving a story more impact.  To get to the core of storytelling music, in my case, emphasis is put on tone and atmosphere over traditional musical structure. I found an authentic way to balance instruments, exotica, field-recording, orchestral colours, electronica and instrumentalists, using both experiment and tradition.

Since I decided to only focus on music for film, in recent years, I am very much looking forward to broaden my network, especially in the field of documentary, film and choreography.  My aim is to add new dimensions to my musical palette while optimally contributing to your project.

INTERFERENCE

INTERFERENCE, a spacious 3D music event / sound walk in Amsterdam,  is a meditation on urban interaction. It focuses on contribution to a stronger connection with the surrounding urban area through both embracement and detachment. All aspects involved in the “urban experience” qualify for this interaction. The structures, the open space, the dwellings, the river, the trees, the people, the intimate stories as well as the melancholy and beauty of a distant skyline. Everything that might remind us of the scale of our compromise. The everyday beauty, the lost beauty, the hidden gems. There to be revealed.

Nine 3D widescreen music-scenes are composed for nine locations in Amsterdam. The result will be something in between a sound walk, a computer-game, a soundtrack and a shared listening experience.

Interference consists of an abstract 3D sound entourage as well as “musical islands”.  Some of the tracks included are available below.

DOCUMENTARY TOGETHER WE CYCLE

  3. OUTSIDE THE CITIES 1:55
  4. THE TITLES 2:06

The film Together we cycle investigates the critical events that led to the revival of the Dutch cycling culture. Many people think that cycling in the Netherlands is a natural phenomenon. However, until the 1970s the development of mobility in the Netherlands followed trends across the globe. The bicycle had had its day, and the future belonged to the car. The only thing that had to be done was to adapt cities to the influx of cars.

DOCUMENTARY WHY WE CYCLE

  1. LOOK BACK 2:40
  2. CITYRIDE 1:53
  3. EXIT 1:08
  4. EXIT TITLES 1:15

To the Dutch, cycling is as normal as breathing. We don’t think about it, we just do it. Perhaps the fact that we don’t think about it, is the key to the bicycle’s success in this country. But because we do not give cycling a second thought, we don’t really know what the deeper needs of cyclists are. In the documentary ‘Why we cycle’ we take a ride with ordinary cyclists and specialists from a variety of disciplines. These conversations uncover some obvious, but even more hidden effects of cycling on people, on societies, and on the organization of cities.

In this modern folktale, social media CEO Brad meets a mysterious woman in his beautiful new beach villa. She confronts him with a contract he can’t remember agreeing to. “To be executed before sunset – that would be nice”. Unaware of her sinister intentions, he struggles to get rid of her. When his sceptical girlfriend Mary suddenly appears, he finds himself bounced about by two fiery women.

What once looked like an ordinary agreement suddenly turns out to be a matter of life and death.
